It's not a total loss, there are some lessons learnt from China's Mudslide.

While many people are facing their laptops, busily facebooking away, soldiers and volunteers are searching through the debris for survivors in Gansu's Zhouqu county. While some of you are being too occupied gossiping about that someone whom you really hate, medical teams and rescue workers are actively transporting injured victims to hospitals in the provincial capital.

The latest death toll from the calamitous mudslide that hit northwest China has risen to 1239. 505 victims are still reported missing.

We whine and whimper for almost every trivial problem that bothers us in life. We are oblivious to the greater sufferings that other people around the globe are encountering . We chose not to care when it comes to someone else's affair because we are just too preoccupied with our own concerns. We are inward-looking not because there aren't much predicaments in the world that are worth being distressed for, but because we are just too wrapped up in ourselves.

We are fortunate, not because some of us possess more wealth and fortune compared to those living in third world countries, but because we do not have to suffer from or grapple with all the unavoidable casualties, natural disasters for instance, that the first world countries have to endure. We are fortunate, not because we are not being brought up in a country which in our conceptions, is always better than the ones that we are being born into, but because we do not have to see the repugnant and appalling side of those countries.

Not one living being is insured from any act of God, but we are lucky enough to escape from the heftier ones. “If you can't be content with what you have received, be thankful for what you have escaped”, so they say.

"When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around."
Willie Nelson.

Be gratified with whatever you have &with whoever you are, when you are still able to do so. Treasure whatever you have right now because you will never know when misfortune or misery will strike you. Help others when you are still capable, because you will never know when is it that you will be needing help from them. Start doing some good deeds from this moments onwards, and bring all sinful acts to a grinding halt.

Life's short. Make the most out of it before your number's up!

xoxo.
